The cost effective solution to replace broken DC12V battery Feb 28 , 2024

     Before the stability of lithium batteries, many split solar street light systems adopted lead-acid and gel batteries. However, with the development of ternary lithium and lithium iron phosphate, along with the new technologies and conveniences brought by them( The detailed comparisons are listed below), some customers have the need to replace lead-acid solar street lights and gel solar batteries at minimal cost. But how to do the retrofit is a challenge for professional solar street light manufacturers to consider.

Lead-Acid Battery

(Also called AGM battery)

The price is the cheapest  among the four battery.

With the competitive prices, its still adopted in some road light projects due to tight tender budget .

1. Lower Energy Density ,so the size will be much bigger for same capacity.

2. Lifespan is shorter as charge and discharge can only reach 300-500 deep cycles.

3. Maintenance cost is high due to shorter lifespan

GEL Battery

 

As a upgraded version , comparing to AGM battery,its   

1. Better performance in Storage capacity, discharge capacity.

2. Service life is twice or more than AGM type

3. Stable performance, can be used in extremely cold weather , and has good earthquake resistance.

Cost is high, sometimes their price exceeds that of ternary lithium-ion batteries.

 

Ternary Lithium Battery

 

1. Compact Size with same capacity, save transportation cost and easy for manual operation

2. Quality products are long life with 800-1000 deep recycle times

3. Suitable for low-temperature places, solar street lights projects in Denmark ,Canada ,Russia ,Kazakhstan,or Washington DC are normally use it.

Unstable in hot area, with the  high-temperate, The internal substance is active and it may explode  

Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery

 

Same as above ,but its electricity performance is stable when temperature is high.

Its widely be use in areas close to the equator such as Southeast Asian countries, the Middle East and Africa.

When it comes to cold area, the charging and discharging performance is not good as ternary lithium battery

Replacement Solutions: Simply remove the old batteries and light head, replacing them with new SIGOLED LED solar street light heads (which have built-in lithium batteries), with an output voltage matching the original solar panel's 18V. This maximizes the use of the original solar panel, saves replacement costs, and extends the life of the luminaire.
